Apichatpong Weerasethakul is a recognisable original voice in contemporary cinema. His films and art installations have won him widespread international recognition and awards. Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives won the 2010 Cannes Palme d’Or, Tropical Malady won the 2004 Cannes Competition Jury Prize and Blissfully Yours won the 2002 Cannes Un Certain Regard prize. Syndromes and a Century (2006) was recognised as one of the best films of the last decade in several 2010 polls. His first feature, Mysterious Object at Noon (2000), was recently restored by Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Foundation. Cemetery of Splendour screened in Un Certain Regard at the 68th Cannes Film Festival, 2015.
