Dedicated to the preservation of koalas and their habitat, the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) joined forces with APSA in 2009 through its ‘No Tree No Me’ and ‘Adopt-a-Koala’ programs.
The 2009 Academy inductees became the first custodians of an Australian foster koala through APSA’s conservation partnership with the international non-profit organisation. Foster koala ‘Rocky’ made a very special appearance at the 2009 Academy Induction Ceremony.
They also initiated a tree pledging program to be continued by future Academy members, a legacy to mark their time on the Gold Coast. If there is no tree, there is no koala and the same can be said for all animals in forests around the world.
Each year’s Academy inductees become the custodian of their very own foster koala and it is APSA’s hope that as the Academy grows, so too does the koala family of Queensland and their habitat.
